I love this app. I've had it for quite a while now, but I've never delved too deeply into its more advanced settings. This is a great tutorial on getting the most out of it.

Lost/Stolen iPhone
Sigh...
Well, it finally happened. I was out skateboarding with my kids today, and my iphone must have fallen out of my pocket. Whoever found it has turned it off, so I have little hope of ever seeing it again.
I tried using the locator app I have on it, but the phone needs to be turned on for it to work. I opted to just send a wipe command, so hopefully the next time it's turned on, all info will be wiped from it. Wish you could send an "explode" command.
**Update** Found it! In retrospect, I guess it's good that there's no explode command.

iPhone: Mind-blowing App of the Day - Word Lens
This iPhone app is currently making the internet rounds, and rightfully so. It translates the printed language in real-time. Point your iPhone camera at a sign in Spanish, and it instantly translates it into English. Or vice-versa. And more languages are on their way. Watch the video below to see what I'm talking about. Absolutely amazing.
iPhone: Lost then Found (or How I Fell More Deeply in Love with Wahoos)
Is there any worse feeling that reaching for your cell phone and realizing it's not there? Okay, there are a lot worse feelings, but this one is up there. I took a long walk today over lunch down to Wahoos (a hawaiian/mexican fusion place). Sat down, ate my lunch while checking my phone and reading the LA Weekly rag. I left quickly, and my mind must have been on the walk (it was starting to rain and I only had a sweatshirt on). An hour later, I'm in my office reaching for my phone, and it's not there. I called the number to see if it would ring - hoping it was in my office somewhere. No luck. I considered using the iPhone locator, but I knew exactly where I had left it. Called up the number and, bam, Wahoos had it. I quickly returned (driving this time) and picked it up, tipping the employee jar $20 and thanking them profusely.
If I was going to leave my phone anyplace, Wahoos was the place to do it. The employees there are johnny on the spot. Always friendly, always courteous - and just on top of things. I've noticed this before, and was even thinking about it today when I went there for lunch. I honestly wasn't that worried, because I've seen how quickly the employees bus the tables there, and I knew that one of them had most likely picked up the phone before anyone else had the opportunity. So thank you, Wahoos - whatever you're putting in the employee drinking fountain over there is definitely working.

Touch Pets: Parents Beware
My kids are into these "free" animal apps on the iPhone called TouchPets. They are basically animatronic dogs you can feed, play with and take care of. The apps are free to download, but of course then they give the kids all sorts of things to buy with real money: new dogs, new toys, etc. My five-year old was playing with my iPhone and somehow managed to purchase over $120 (real money) of coins for the game. I have a password, but I must have been logged in already or something, because he was able to make the purchases.
I'm not sure what Apple's policy is on this. When Apple sends you a receipt, you can click on a link to "Report a Problem". So far I've reported all of the charges, but haven't heard back from Apple. I won't hold my breath. I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't just part of the TouchPets' creators' business model, i.e., kids buying things without their parents knowledge.
At the same time, I realize it is totally my responsibility to monitor these kinds of things and make sure they don't happen. I'm resigned to the fact that I probably won't see that money back again. Some lessons are more expensive than others, and I think I got off pretty easy with this one.
