Taiwan News' Take on Legalalization of Marijuana in California

They mention that if marijuana is legalized, the Federal government could potentially pull Federal funds out of California.  I can't really see congressional democrats pushing for this.  The republicans claim to be for states' rights, but in practice its only when they agree with what the state is doing.  Otherwise they have no problem with bringing the hammer of the federal government down on a state.

"Notwithstanding my opposition to Proposition 19, however, I am signing this measure because possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is an infraction in everything but name," Schwarzenegger wrote in a signing message.
"In this time of drastic budget cuts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, and the courts cannot afford to expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket."

Four Future Scenarios for California

Always the cynic (or realist, depending on your point of view), I like to jump to the worst-case scenarios first.  Enclave Economy seems like a logical extension of where things have been headed for a while.  Instead of walled-off cities though, it is more likely for there to be larger and more numerous walled-off (read "gated") communities.  At least that's what my magic 8-ball told me.
