New York Times article on online dating site OkCupid and their datamining blog OkTrends

New York Times Article

I have to say, I am pretty much over OkCupid.  I gave it a shot for a couple of weeks, but after writing a lot of emails and getting next to no responses, it had me completely demoralized.   I figured there must be something unappealing about myself to garner such a weak response.  I spoke with some guys I work with who had used the site as well and they said the same thing.  They were approaching lots of women (via email) and getting dead silence in return.   Not even a "no thanks, not interested" - but nothing.

Then I signed up for Match.com, and in the first day or two I had received more responses than two weeks on OkCupid.  Granted, one of the responses was a con artist, but for the most part they seem like great candidates for at least friendship.  I'm not sure exactly what is going on over at OkCupid, if it's a younger crowd looking for more of a hook up than a relationship, but I'm definitely having better luck at Match.

By the way, I am in no way a paid endorser of any product, company, or whatever.  This stuff is just my own personal experience.
